Vice Consul, Bali

Based in Bali, but reporting to the Consul in Jakarta, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing Consular assistance and notarial services to British nationals in Bali and Lombok. 

Main Duties 
  • Operational management of the Consulate; line managing two consular assistants; managing the daily consular workload, ensuring effective and efficient delivery of consular services in Bali and Lombok 
  • Financial management, including receiving and properly accounting for consular fees 
  • Assist Consul to maintain (and test annually) the Crisis Management Plan, in readiness for any potential crisis 
  • Develop outreach programme to build and maintain partnerships with local authorities, NGOs etc 
  • Develop effective preventative communications campaigns aimed at helping British nationals avoid trouble 
  • Provide consular assistance across the full range of casework, including prisoners, hospitalisations, bereavements and victims of crime; receiving and processing applications for emergency travel documents 
Requirements 
  • Experience of a similar role in another Embassy, NGO or international organization would be an advantage 
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills with a strong customer focus
  • Flexible, resilient under pressure and decisive with a proven track record of delivering results to a high standard within tight deadlines
  • Personal drive and the ability to be a self-starter as well as a team player  Strong time management and prioritisation skills 
  • Willingness to travel across Indonesia and occasionally internationally as needed 
  • Willingness to work additional hours as necessary, sometimes unsociable hours during a crisis. 
  • Excellent English language skills. For candidates with English as a second language, certification at IELTS (or equivalent) level 7 or higher within the last 2 years is required. All skill areas (Writing, Speaking, Listening and Reading) must be IELTS score 6.5 or higher.
  • Some knowledge of spoken and written Bahasa Indonesia would be an advantage 
  • IT proficiency – using MS Office, Outlook and ability to learn Foreign Office systems 
  • Applicants must be willing to start the employment with a fixed term contract
