(LE5) Fisheries Program and Media Officer - Jakarta

Applications are invited for the above position in the Department of Agriculture at the Australian Embassy, Jakarta. The position is a full-time fixed term position with an immediate commencement date required.

The duties of the position and selection criteria are listed below. The successful applicant must meet the selection criteria as detailed below. A monthly salary in the amount of IDR 18,330,311 will be offered to the successful applicant dependent upon qualifications, relevant experience and demonstrated skills.

About the Department of Agriculture – Jakarta
Department of Agriculture at post currently consists of five Australian based staff (A-based) and more than 20 local personnel (O-based). The Department facilitates trade in agricultural products, provides advice on the Indonesian market, builds relationships with the Indonesian government and industry groups, and manages capacity building programs in agriculture, fisheries and forestry.

General Description of the Position

About the role
The role of this position is primarily implementing the Public Information Campaign on Illegal Fishing program and assist with other illegal fishing cooperation activities. The position is funded by the Public Information Campaign on Illegal Fishing Program.

Duties includes:
  1. Manage local implementation of the Joint Indonesia-Australia Public Information Campaign (PIC) on Illegal Fishing and other outreach activities in Eastern Indonesia.
  2. Assist with fisheries cooperation focussing on minimising Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated fishing, including capacity building programs, bilateral relationship building and multilateral activities.
  3. Compile reports on media reporting across Department of Agriculture portfolio interests.
  4. Undertake translations of media articles.
  5. Design and produce documents, and various publications.
  6. Assist in organisation of programs for visiting Embassy officers and others involved in the PIC and outreach activities.
  7. Carrying out other duties as required.
The Selection Criteria
  1. Marketing, media liaison, research and strategic planning skills of a high order.
  2. Well-developed oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, including a high standard of spoken and written English and Bahasa Indonesian.
  3. Effective liaison, coordination, networking and negotiation skills.
  4. Demonstrated experience in working in the media, public relations or government relations fields, including networks of contacts.
  5. Familiarity with Indonesian fisheries issues and development activities in Eastern Indonesian fishing communities.
  6. Understanding of Australian Government objectives and strategies to address illegal fishing activity in Australian waters.
  7. Initiative, flexibility and adaptability, and an ability to work in remote locations.
